Special Metal Outside Band for Easier Handling
Unlike standard thrust ball bearings, thrust ball bearings with outside band feature a special metal outer ring that encloses the outer diameter of both the shaft washer and the housing washer. This provides added protection, isolation, and secure positioning.
With the metal shield in place, all bearing components can be preassembled as a single unit. This eliminates the risk of assembly errors or component loss caused by the separable nature of thrust bearings, and significantly reduces the chances of human error during installation.
Simplified Installation Process
Thrust ball bearings with outside band are typically preassembled before leaving the factory. This type of bearing allows for direct installation with out assemble, reducing both installation cost and risk.
In addition, the outer shield can be seen as a simple bearing seal. While not fully sealed, it helps limit grease leakage and prevents contaminants from the bearing. This makes it suitable for exposed environments that require protection against dust, dirt, moisture, or other foreign particles—ultimately reducing daily maintenance costs.
Specifically Engineered for Axial Loads
Just like standard thrust ball bearings, thrust ball bearings outside band are specifically designed to handle axial loads. Their fundamental load direction is identical to that of regular thrust bearings, meaning they are not suitable for radial loads perpendicular to the shaft.
Thanks to the low friction and compact structure of ball bearings, they are typically used in applications requiring tight tolerances and high precision.
So, if your equipment only needs to withstand axial loads and demands precise, smooth operation, a thrust ball bearing is a suitable choice.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the outer shield usually made of?
The outer shield is usually made of cold-rolled steel, which offers a cost-effective solution suitable for most environments.
For special conditions such as humid or mildly corrosive environments, stainless steel is available as an alternative. Please contact us if you have specific material requirements.
Does the outer band have sealing capability?
Yes, but it is not fully sealed. Compared to standard thrust ball bearings, the outside band does offer protection against most contaminants. However, it does not provide a complete seal, so in extreme environments, additional dust protection measures may be necessary.
Are the washers, balls, and other dimensions of this bearing the same as those of standard thrust ball bearings?
Yes, thrust ball bearings with outside band share the same washers, balls, and dimensions as standard thrust ball bearings—the only difference is the addition of the outer shield. For specific dimensions and parameters, please refer to the product detail page.
Do you offer customization services?
Yes, we offer customized bearings based on customer requirements, including special sizes, packaging and materials.
